It is a Gong bath special this week!!
In this newsletter I focus on the benefits and ways in which the gong works and why we use it in Kundalini Yoga. Sound is so potent and truly assists us to transcend, expand and recognise our true infinite nature …. The gong is a profound pure gift to receive. An integral park of Kundalini Yoga is sound, or what we call sound current or “Naad”.
The symphonic gong, which I will bring to class this Thursday and Sunday is a healing itself! See why below… once you have tasted it, you know.
Could there be a better Valentine’s gift than to truly receive yourself … unconditionally loving in all that is you …
Sat Nam!
Warm greetings to you!!!
The feeling for this week’s kundalini yoga energy is of gracefully opening into your heart and opening deeper, like a flower, into the sun, into the infinite expansion of all that we are. Our true nature.
When we meditate, or daydream, or simply relax (surrender), this field opens up and we recognise life is abundant, expansive and always much greater than we currently perceive. This week, as I bring the Symphonic Gong, you may deepen or start to feel this … the gong facilitates this experience through sound. So if you struggle to quieten the mind, or if you wish to release blockages and go deeper into your peaceful, wise, relaxed inner state, the gong is fantastic for you ….
I will share more about the gong below, if you are interested, please continue reading.
Other than that, a bit more news for you is:
Our new Tuesday classes will commence Tuesday 5th of April 7:30-9pm and this is going to be a ‘beginners class’, where I will share about the basics, like mantra, three stage breath, mudras etc. This class is going to be held in Glenunga! (close to Burnside Village)
In our usual Thursday 7pm and Sunday 4pm classes, I will of course still educate, but less about the basics.
From April onwards all classes will officially be 1.5 hours, and my website will reflect this.
Please book in online and let me know if you have any challenges with the booking system.
Please arrive to class approximately 10-15 minutes before commencement, so you can prepare, unwind, and stretch …
Thank you for respecting the silence before and after class. I have had huge positive feedback and love this alignment. The benefits are massive. In this era of information overload, and communication on so many levels, messages and pretty much no time to yourself in silence, unless you specifically castle yourself away, this is a great gift.
Communication: Please feel free to email me, or text or phone to create a meeting or to share and have my support. I am totally here to offer you whatever knowledge and guidance that is here. It is my passion and my privilege.
At class if you wish to talk with me, simply make eye contact and we can talk softly outside the space.
Kundalini Yoga is potent. Your intent is potent. Your openness is potent. Much is shifting for so many of you, as you share with me. Please remember you are divine and stay loving an soft towards yourself always, as you journey into release … this actually speeds it up and allows the tension and blockages to release easily … being SOFT and ALLOWING is an essential skill to embrace and develop deeply ….
Your pranic flow (mostly taken in through the breath which carries prana and enters the body, but we also absorb it through food and our general environment), when balanced through the use of kriyas, leads in creating shift in your consciousness and physical body … so remember the breath above all. It truly is the most powerful physical ‘activity’ .. the other is your attention… where you place it, is your life. This is what you empower with the potency of your consciousness.
LONG DEEP BREATHING
(I have a laminate at the desk since years, describing the benefits).. here are some, as an inspired reminder:
A yogic breath, we call long deep breathing, expands your lung capacity 8 fold!
As you inhale, expanding the navel and abdomen outward, then fill the chest, upper ribs and clavicle, you connect to your body in a deeper way, harnessing your lung capacity.
On the way down, release your breath from the top down, ending up with your navel back toward the spine. Release ALL the breath. The deep exhale facilitates deeper inhale!
Long Deep breathing offers you so much:
increased endurance
increased patience
increased healing emotionally and physically
pituitary function increased
pineal gland activation
deep meditation
expanded consciousness
release of toxins
balance of nervous system
balancing chakras
coping with stress
inspired ideas
optimisation of mental processes
lifestyle changes to enhance your current state
increased levels of energy
NAMASTE …. Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo!

THE GONG
Below I am sharing some information about the gong. It is an important aspect of Kundalini Yoga. I am using a Symphonic Gong.
Here is some information for you to contemplate.
The gong is a sacred and ancient instrument of healing, rejuvenation and transformation. It has been used in many ancient cultures. It synthesises everything so that it comes into functional harmony. To heal is to make whole, so where there is functional harmony and holistic resonance, healing takes place naturally.
The vibrations of the gong are space filling. Multiple tones and clusters of overtones build as the gong is played, eventually creating a plasma of total sound, which can be directly felt kinaesthetically by the person receiving the gong healing. Natural harmonics are overtones, which normally go upwards until they dissolve into friction. This is the natural process of ageing. It vibrates and reaches all that you are, spaces included.
The pure living tones of the gong delay the degenerative process of natural harmonics thereby bringing us more energy, youthfulness and healing.
On a physical level, the gong releases tension and blocks in the body, it stimulates a higher functioning of the glandular and nervous system, it increases prana, our vital life force and improves circulation.
The gong also works deeply on the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. The gong purifies and quietens the mind. It literally cuts through the linear mind and clears the clutter from the subconscious mind to reveal the radiant and authentic self. It has the capacity to bring us to our neutral mind that is wise and non-judgemental. It helps turn the mind to zero, a state of stillness where innate wisdom can be accessed. Another benefit that comes from the mind stilling, is repair at the DNA and cellular level allowing deep healing to take place.
Within the name of GONG lies the sacred seed ONG. Ong is creative consciousness manifested. It is the penetration of the Om power in the material world.
When you listen deeply to the gong, the sound of Ong is reverberating and penetrating our being helping to raise our consciousness.
Yogi Bhajan, a master of Kundalini Yoga and Gong said,
“Vibrate the cosmos and the cosmos shall clear the path.”
So on a spiritual level, the gong helps us to clear our path of obstacles so that we live a life of destiny as opposed to a life of fate.
The sound of Ong that emanates from the gong has a direct impact on the third eye, the pituitary and pineal glands. This subsequently increases our intuition and connection to divine and universal knowledge. It brings us beyond time and space. It brings us bliss and union.
“The gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind.
There is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind-the sound of the gong.
It is the first sound in the universe, the sound that created this universe. It is the basic creative sound.
To the mind, the sound of the gong is like a mother and father that gave it birth. The mind has no power to resist a gong that is well played.” Yogi Bhajan
“You have no resistance against this sound. It is the master sound, the adi naad. Everything you think becomes zero—the gong prevails.” Yogi Bhajan
Contraindications
The gong is a very powerful and transformational tool. There are a few contraindications for this from of healing. If you are any of the below, you should speak to the gong practitioner as this form of healing may be contraindicated for you.
Women who are in their first and final trimester of pregnancy
Children under the age of 7
People suffering from serious mental health problems
The sound of a live gong stimulates circulation while its wide range of frequencies stimulate nerve endings and may prove useful in recovering from injuries in which nerve damage has occurred.
As physical distress and illness often have an emotional and stress related component as well, the gong affects the physical health by working in these areas as well.
It also appears that the sound of the gong stimulates the glandular system to a higher level of functioning. The pituitary gland seems directly affected by its sound which in turn causes the whole glandular system to become balanced. (As I shared above already, this is an excerpt from another Kundalini Yoga/Yogi Bhajan source).
It helps turn the mind to zero, a state of stillness where innate wisdom can be accessed.”
” When we are born our body ecology is like a rain forest. By the time you are an adult, caught up in everyday routines, you may feel you are living in a spiritual desert. Your body has become depleted because you haven’t been exercising, eating right or doing yoga. No one taught you how to truly care for your body, mind and soul, much less the dimensions beyond that (consciousness, your ten yogic bodies). Without this training you end up in trouble, seeking a way to find balance.
TRUTH IS WHATEVER HEALS.
This concept is of utmost importance in the healing process. If you have a thought that’s not making you better, it’s not true for you. Truth is whatever heals – it’s whatever nurtures, brings strength, independence, wholeness, infinity and regeneration.
I don’t believe you find yourself. I don’t believe you create yourself. I believe you make a nurturing environment, let yourself be and see what grows. You can create an environment of people who support you, love you, and care for you. You can find a job that nurtures you and makes you feel good about yourself. You can eat delicious healing food that gives energy than takes energy from your body. You can do yoga to create an internal agricultural paradise. By keeping all aspects of yourself in balance (the ten bodies we talk of in kundalini yoga, which goes beyond the chakras), you can heal the self because most of the time, illness is a manifestation of being out of sync with the voice of your soul. ”
